CONVERSION VAN

What is a Van Conversion?

A conversion van for a mobile clinic starts with an empty extended-size, high-roof cargo van. That empty van is then used by Odulair as the starting platform to manufacture specialized mobile medical vehicles, most commonly available for sale as mobile health vans, mobile clinics, mobile dental vans, mental health mobile vans, mobile eye clinic van, audiology mobile clinic van, mobile veterinary clinic van, family van mobile clinic, and mobile medical clinic van.

While there are many vans from different manufacturers available for sale in the market, for mobile medical purposes, not all vans are born alike. In fact, only a select few vans do indeed provide what is needed and offer what is the most suitable area for converting a cargo/passenger van into a mobile medical vehicle that both patients and medical staff will absolutely love to be in.

Two aspects decide which of those commercially available vans should in fact be used for a van conversion into a mobile health van: the interior height of the van and the van’s length.

Why are the height and length so important if a van is a van? Every inch of interior height you can have you should take it. After all, everybody wants to be able to stand up comfortably, and as the medical provider, you need a space that will be accommodating, safe, and pleasant. For both staff and patients alike. And let’s not forget all the tall people, that extra headroom will come extremely handy, and only a few vans can deliver it.

Then comes the length of the vehicle to consider. If you can have more why should you settle for less? That initial investment in securing the extra feet will come in handy every day you use the mobile health van, or the mobile dental clinic van, whatever the final medical use will be. Something very important to remember is that the wheel-wells protrude inside the vehicle, no matter the vehicle’s make or model. You have wheels, you will have wheel-wells to contend with. That means the wheel-wells will take some floor space inside the vehicle. Of course, there are positive solutions to deal with that pre-condition of the wheel-wells, like building cabinets above the wheel-wells as means of transforming a design inconvenience into something useful.

So, to recap, here are Odulair preferred choices for a conversion medical van:

  1. High-Roof Sprinter Vans (Mercedes or Freightliner vans, these are exactly the same, made in the same facility, just the branding changes) with 24’ length, 170 inches wheelbase extended with 3ft longer overhang, and 7′ internal height from bottom to the top of the cargo space, bare metal to bare metal.
  2. High-Roof Ford Transit Van is also a great vehicle for conversion vans for medical facilities, although smaller than the Mercedes/Freightliner Sprinters.
